Lisa Schwartz: I'm Lisa Schwartz, a partner here at Anapol Schwartz. I would like to tell you what types of incidences give rise to a personal injury action. You are probably most familiar with the most typical type of automobile accident case, where a suit is brought against another driver; but what you may not know is that an automobile accident case can also be brought where there is a mistake in the road design itself, or where you are injured by an intoxicated driver who was served by a person or a bar, and therefore caused your injuries.
Another type of personal injury case involves a medical mistake, but it's not just a mistake by a doctor. It can also include a dental mistake, or a psychologist or psychiatrist--any type of mental health care provider--may give rise to a lawsuit for malpractice. Malpractice can also occur in the giving of a vaccine to a child, and if there are any unusual or strange events that occur after the giving of a vaccine, perhaps you may want to consult with a lawyer.
A personal injury claim can also be brought as a result of a slip and fall, whether it is on ice or steps, or in a store, for example. There are also injuries that occur on construction sites, or even in your home as a result of dangerous products. Again, all of these may serve as a basis to bring a personal injury action.
Another area of law that we handle is defamation. Defamation is a written or spoken injury to your reputation. It is a bad statement about you, which causes you certain types of harm. For example, if a newspaper were to write something very negative about you, then you should contact me, and we should sit down and talk about your case.
